Carly Veitch

 --- Carly_Veitch  Carly Veitch joined FARMANCO in June 2008. Carly comes from a farming background, having grown up on the family farm in Moora. She now operates from the York office. Carly has a particular interest in the areas of farm business management and livestock management, in particular sheep breeding and genetics. Carly is currently developing a consulting client base in the Central and Northern Wheatbelt. She operates a cashbook recording service for FARMANCO clients in the Central and Eastern Wheatbelt. She is the editor of the monthly FARMANCO Facts Newsletter. Carly also has corporate responsibility for maintaining and improving the FARMANCO Profit Series, as well as maintaining various Business Analysis software.

Skills, Expertise & Interests

Consulting (Farm Management - Financial)

  • Compiles annual reviews of the physical and financial performance of a business from both historical and cashflow data, providing analysis on individual enterprises, and the whole farm business. This analysis includes: Enterprise analysis; Profit analysis; Key business ratios and indicators; Budgeting; and Long term viability analysis. All the data is then compiled in report format for the farm business and for presentation to lending institutions.
  • Prepare Feasibility Studies for property purchase, machinery purchase, business restructuring, farm leasing and share farming proposals.
  • Develop finance plans for seasonal funding, debt reconstruction, property purchase, machinery purchase, lease and share farm proposals and business restructuring
  • Has developing knowledge of off farm financial investments.
  • Can prepare cashflow budgets with associated worksheets for cropping, sheep, wool, pigs & cattle. Also performs a cashbook recording service for some clients.

  • Prepares and analyses enterprise and rotational margins
  • Develop contract content for short term and long term lease and sharefarmer agreements.

Consulting (Farm Management - Technical)

  • Good knowledge of Mediterranean farming systems
  • Developing knowledge of crop agronomy (cereals, canola, lupins, field peas, faba beans and chickpeas) and pasture agronomy (legume based) as it relates to Western Australia.
  • Developing knowledge of crop protection including herbicide, insecticide and fungicide systems for crops and pastures, spray adjuvants and sprayer technology, and management of herbicide resistance.
  • Nutrition strategies for crops and pastures.
  • Developing knowledge of precision farming systems
  • Sheep and Wool production systems including husbandry and genetics.
  • Beef cattle production including breeding and management programs.

Consulting (Farm Management - Marketing)

  • Provide general information (not legally allowed to give specific recommendations) for price risk management. Clients are referred to qualified specialists for specific recommendations.
  • Assess marketing options for major agricultural commodities. Able to compare commodity quotes on a common basis.

Computers & Software

  • Conversant with the operation of personal computers and associated hardware.
  • Knowledge of various software including spreadsheets, word processors, specific agricultural applications and internet software.
  • Assist clients with cashbook coding, data entry and budgeting.

Previous Employment & Experience

2007 Gilmac Pty Ltd

Hay Sampler responsible for on-farm coring of export hay. This gave Carly some hands-on experience with the export hay industry in Western Australia.

2007 Wool Agency

Store person responsible for wool samples and the preparation of the show floor for weekly wool auctions. This gave Carly experience in the wool marketing process.

2006 CSIRO, Floreat/Department of Agriculture and Food Western Australia (DAFWA), Katanning

Carly completed the professional practice component of her Muresk degree working on a wool strength research project for CSIRO and DAFWA. She was responsible for preparing and testing samples, and recording and analysing results. This gave Carly experience in completing and writing research projects.
