Field Research
Finding solutions and answers to specific client problems is the reason FARMANCO began its own independent field research program in 1983. Funding was sourced internally as well as from the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC).
Over time this research has both improved the quality of advice given to our clients and resulted in herbicide use and crop variety assessment innovations that are considered standard practice now in much of Western Australia.
In the latter part of the 1990s the need to independently conduct and fund this research declined as other organisations and farmer groups began establishing field trials. However, there is an increased need for FARMANCO to identify and collate data from the many trials now established every year in WA, and across Australia.
Desktop Research
Farming businesses need to access, understand and implement selected new information consistently. This information can be technical or financial in nature and is available in vast quantities and formats. FARMANCO has an important role in sourcing and then distilling relevant information into forms that are easily useable by its clients.
This "desktop" research has always been performed and the results incorporated into newsletter articles, seminar presentations and general conversation. However, the need for this type of research has continued to increase and FARMANCO is intensifying its efforts in this area. Separate "Research Reports" are one product that will be produced out of this more formalised approach.
